MITCHELL DOUBLE DISC CLUTCH

Congratulations on your purchase!

Please read carefully the following instructions BEFORE you install your new clutch assembly. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

  1. Upon receipt of the clutch assembly make sure you received the following items: Clutch assembly, pilot bearing and throwout bearing.

  2. BEFORE disassembling the pressure plate (PP) from the flywheel (FW) take note of the paint marks to align the PP to the FW. Also pay close attention to the markings that note extra washers and or longer bolts. All components MUST be reassembled in the same location for balance purposes.

  3. Remove the PP from the FW. Note the clutch disc positioning! Inputshaft hubs are riveted to the transmission side of the clutch discs. The clutch disc with the longest hub goes next to the PP-closest to the transmission. (See picture on page 2).

  4. Remove the 4 remaining socket head bolts from the FW and apply a drop of RED Loctite. Torque to 40 ft. lbs.

  5. Install new pilot bearing in the FW. Loctite bolts and install FW on crankshaft. Torque FW bolts to 100 ft. lbs. (See picture on page 3).

  6. Now reassemble the clutch EXACTLY the same way you took it apart. Line up the paint mars on the PP and the FW. The intermediate plate drive lugs are installed on the non slotted cutouts.

  7. Apply RED Loctite to PP bolts and bolt PP to FW. Torque PP bolts to 40 ft. lbs. maximum.

  8. Adjust clutch finger height AFTER installation. They need to be adjusted to 9/16” below the PP cover. Loosen 5/16” lock strap bolts and turn adjusters as required to achieve 9/16” height. Retighten lock strap bolts to 20 ft. lbs.

  9. Following adjustment both the lock strap bolt heads and the adjusters need to be ground down to approx. 1/8” thickness.

  10. Remove clutch release lever pivot ball from transmission bell housing. Discard washer and reinstall pivot ball. The “I” stamped into release lever goes toward the pivot ball.

  11. 5 Speed (NV 4500) Transmission ONLY: Cut the 2 center ribs on the back of the release lever so that the left (driver’s side) of the lever contacts the bell housing at the point where the slave cylinder is installed.

  12. When installing transmission be sure not to bend the clutch discs. The transmission should push in by hand until the bell housing contacts the flywheel housing.

We have SFI Bellhousing blankets available for both 5 and 6 speed applications.
